Birthday Suki Robe

I made this Suki Robe (from Helen's Closet) for a dear friend for her birthday waaaay back in January.  I don't often sew for others (thoughts on the phrase "selfish sewing" to come later... spoiler alert - I hate it), but when I do I want to make something special!  I bought this gorgeous floral rayon from Blackbird Fabrics and it has the perfect drape for a breezy robe (have I told you how much I love rayon?  because I LOVE RAYON).  The only tricky part was photographing this one... not the easiest to show off a robe when it's not on a person, and we all know black fabric is notoriously hard to photograph!

I really, really love this pattern!  It has lots of great details (pockets!  an inner tie!) and it sewed up pretty quickly.

The instructions are also really clear and really well done.  The only really fiddly bit was the collar and I muddled it a tiny bit... but things still turned out great!  Again, the details on this robe are fantastic.  The way the back ties are sewn-in, the little loops for the ties, and the hanging loop at the neck line.  All perfect!

The length of the sleeves is also spot-on.  The RTW robe I have (that I'm definitely going to replace with a Suki) has long sleeves that just get in the way.  These hit about elbow to 3/4 length and are perfect!  They're not too drapey, but also drapey enough to make you feel super fancy.  Oh and yeah, I obviously tried this on as I was making it.... absolutely making one for myself soon!

So - I really, really love this pattern and once I can squeeze it in to my sewing queue (and find just the right fabric) I'm definitely making one for myself!  It also comes together fairly quickly and the sizing is very forgiving, so it is a great pattern to make as a gift too.
